Armed militants with the Al Qaeda-linked Al shabaab were reported to have launched a daring raid on several military outposts in central Somalia on Thursday morning.

Residents in Jalalaqsi district in Hiran region said Al shabaab fighters armed with machine guns and RPGs have attacked the army bases belonging to the Somali and African Union (AMISOM) forces.

Confirming the incident, a senior district official said the allied troops have successfully repulsed the attack, and inflicted casualties on the militants during the gunfight that raged on for hours.

The official who asked to remain anonymous did not confirm the exact casualties on both sides as a result of Today’s assault on SNA and AMISOM barracks in the outskirts of Jalalaqsi town.
