An official in Somalia’s central semi-autonomous state of  Galmudug has declared that region’s security forces will launch a security operation in the conflict-riddled town of Galkayo, the regional capital of Mudug province.

Speaking to Radio Shabelle, the mayor of Galkayo Hersi Yusuf Barre confirmed that Puntland and Galmudug forces are prepared to carry out the joint operation aimed at beefing up the city’s overall peace and stability following clashes in the past.

Barre stressed the two Federal states have recently trained an integrated Police force tasked with the security of Galkayo.

Somali Police commissioner Abdihakim Dahir Sa’id, who is a working visit in the town, has attended the closing ceremony for  the training course of the integrated soldiers, and urged them to strive hard to enforce security in the region.
