The lawmakers of HirShabelle state have elected Dr Mohamed Abdi Waare as the new President of the administration following an election held on Saturday on Jowhar town.
Waare got 74 votes during the second round of the voting, beating his close contender Dahir Abdulle, who received 23 votes. 97 MPs cast their votes in the hotly contested poll.
Mohamed Abdi Waare – an educated served in former central government will replace Ali Abdullahi Osoble, who was ousted by the Parliament last August in a no confidence vote.
Waare becomes the second President of HirShabelle since its establishment in 2016.
