The troops of Somalia’s northeastern semi-autonomous region of Puntland have carried out a security operation in the divided city of Galkayo on Saturday following insecurity acts.

The sweep targeted Israc and Garsoor villages located in the Puntland-administered Galkayo to thwart any pending attacks from Al Shabaab militants.

Speaking to the reporters, Abdullahi Yusuf “Dowlad” said troops were put on high alert following reports of a security threat by the militant group in the region.

The movement of the regional forces came after an attack on a security checkpoint in the port city of Bosaso, the regional capital of Bari province.
