Saudi Arabia has sent back a cargo ship carrying thousands of livestock exported from Somalia, citing “Rift Valley fever”.

The ship carrying 27,000 sheep and goats from Jeddah docked at Bosaso seaport, the commercial hub of Somalia’s northeastern Federal member state.

The move comes days after Somalia has sided with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia against Canada an in diplomatic row.

Saudi Arabia is a key market for Somali livestock, which has been paralyzed by the conflict and lawlessness due to the collapse of the former central government in 1991.
