Somali Security forces have foiled a planned rally aimed to show a solidarity with the mayor of Mogadishu amid reports of his replacement.

The Federal government troops were deployed into main streets in the capital on Saturday morning and denied access the demonstrators to hold their rally at Benadir stadium.

The mayor of Mogadishu Thabit Abdi Mohamed faces pressure from the office of the President which issued a statement on Friday stopping the sale and lease of public lands.

Mohamed could likely be sacked and replaced with a new mayor if the current stalemate continues to progress, according to sources.
