A huge car bomb has exploded in the heart of Somali capital, Mogadishu on Sunday afternoon, causing no casualties.

The bomb went off on the busy Maka al Mukaram road, after it was intercepted by the Somali security forces at a checkpoint. Big clouds of black smoke visible rising in the sky.

The scene was immediately cordoned off by the Security personnel, who halted the traffic and public movement for moments.

The exact target of the blast remains unclear.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but, Al shabaab often carries out car bombings in the capital, targeting key government places and high-profile hotels.
