A gunman has shot and killed a foreign aid worker in Mogadishu, the Somali capital on Friday, authorities, and witnesses said.

A Ugandan national working for UNICEF was killed in the Agency’s compound at K5 junction in Mogadishu by a soldier believed to be a former security guard fired from the job.

Somali security forces arrived at the scene, shortly after the perpetrator ‘escaped’ on foot, according to an eyewitness who spoke to Radio Shabelle over the phone.

It remains unclear the motive behind the murder of the UNICEF employee.
